Best AI visibility tools in 2026: how to choose

Disclosure first: we make OClever, one of the tools below. We describe each product from its public pages and say where a different tool is the better choice.

How we looked at the tools

We read each vendor's public product pages and independent comparisons in October 2026, and we judged tools on the same questions: how answers are sampled, which engines and markets are covered, whether numbers trace to real answers, what happens after a gap is found, and who the product is aimed at. We did not test every product hands-on, so treat this as a guide to what to check, not a ranking, and confirm details with each vendor.

We deliberately leave out prices. They change often and vary by plan, so check each vendor's pricing page.

The main options and who they suit

Profound is aimed at larger brands. Its public material describes tracking across AI engines plus an Actions feature that turns findings into content briefs and outreach suggestions, informed by AI responses, citations and AI traffic to your site. It suits teams that want depth and have budget and people to act on it.

Peec AI is a tracker with a lighter feel. Its Actions feature groups cited sources into types, such as editorial listicles, forum discussions and product pages, scores opportunities by how often engines cite that type and how much competitors appear there, and separates on-page from off-page work. It suits teams that want to see source gaps without a heavy platform.

Scrunch focuses on share of voice across answers, sentiment in AI responses and which domains and pages are cited most, and Otterly.AI is another monitoring-focused tool for brand mentions and citations in AI search. Tools like these suit teams whose first need is to see the landscape and report on it.

AthenaHQ pairs monitoring with optimization recommendations and, according to a comparison page from a competitor, works on a credit model where actions such as analyzing a response or drafting content use credits. It suits teams that want recommendations bundled with tracking and are comfortable budgeting by credits.

Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit and Ahrefs Brand Radar add AI tracking to established SEO platforms. They suit teams already living in those tools who want AI numbers next to their rank and link data. Some comparisons describe Semrush's toolkit as keyword-focused rather than prompt-focused.

OClever tracks visibility across the major AI engines with repeated sampling, then adds first-party evidence from your Search Console, Analytics and crawler logs, a free technical readiness check, recommended actions that are re-measured, and white-label and pooled-resource features for agencies. It suits teams that need to defend a number and act on it, and agencies running many brands.

What to compare before you buy

Sampling: ask how many times each question is run and how often. One run per question per week is noise. Repeated sampling with a stated rate and range is a measurement.

Coverage: confirm the engines you care about are included, in the countries and languages you sell in, and whether shopping and local answers are covered if they matter to you.

Traceability: you should be able to click from any score to the answers and sources behind it. If you cannot, you cannot check the tool or explain the number to a client.

Next steps: a tracker that stops at charts leaves the work to you. Look for concrete, prioritized actions, an owner for each, and a check that they worked.

Fit: a global enterprise, an agency and a five-person startup need different things. Choose for your team size, reporting needs and how many brands you manage.

A simple way to decide

If you are starting out, set up Search Console and run a free technical check first, then track a short prompt set by hand for a few weeks. That tells you what you need from a paid tool.

If you need a number to report, shortlist two or three tools that sample repeatedly and show the answers behind the numbers, then run each on the same twenty questions for a month and compare what they find.

If you manage client brands, add white-label reporting, per-client scoping and pooled limits to the checklist.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI visibility tool?

It depends on the team. Larger brands may want a deep platform, smaller teams a lighter tracker, SEO teams an add-on to their current suite, and agencies white-label reporting. Compare sampling, coverage, traceability and next steps.

Are AI visibility tools worth paying for?

They are when you need repeated sampling across several engines, trend reporting and actions at scale. To start, free tools and a hand-made prompt set show you what you need.

How accurate are AI visibility scores?

Only as accurate as the sampling behind them. Answers vary between runs, so a score needs many samples, a stated sample size and a range. Be wary of a single number with no method.

Do these tools track Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?

Many cover them, but coverage differs by tool and by market. Check each vendor's list of engines and locations.
