What is an llms.txt file?

A plain markdown file served at yoursite.com/llms.txt. It gives language models a short, curated list of your most useful pages, each with a one-line note. It was proposed in 2024 and is mainly read by developer tools and documentation workflows.

Will llms.txt help me rank in Google or ChatGPT?

There is no evidence that it changes rankings or citations in Google Search or the major AI search engines, and they do not document relying on it. It is a cheap extra for tools that choose to read it. The pages it points to matter far more.

Where do I put the file?

At the root of your domain so it loads at /llms.txt. Serve it as plain text or markdown, keep it out of robots.txt blocks and do not put it behind a login or a script.

Does this tool store my data?

No. The file is built in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server.
